Kalahari Potjie Cooker is a charcoal cooker, which is designed to be economical, durable and practical. It is manufactured using volcanic ash liner, which insulates heat inside the cooker and concentrates the heat on the cooking utensil with minimum heat loss. With a minimum amount of charcoal, the cooker manages to retain heat for up to 8 hours. It is much easier to use than an open fire heat source and temperature regulation is more effective because of liner retaining heat in combination with 2 air vents to control charcoal burn rate.

It can be used with potjies, frying pans, pots and woks. The Kalahari Potjie Cooker is easy to use, economical, safe, and portable, even when in use.

The three-legged pot was originated and widely used across Europe, and introduced to South Africa when Europeans settled there. More than 300 years later, Potjie cooking is still used extensively by almost all cultures, and has survived the test of time. Today, this style of cooking represents a strong tradition that belongs to all the different peoples and food cultures.

It is a way of socializing, a way to have a party, and a way of cooking outdoors when you are camping. For most South Africans an invitation to potjiekos (food cooked in a potjie) promises a relaxing time of cheerful chatting by the fire, often in a beautiful surrounding, while mouth-watering flavours of stews or curries emerge from the potjie.

Cooking in a potjie usually takes a little longer than the conventional / electric stove, but the result is clearly worth waiting for!

Kalahari Potjie Cooker is built and designed to be durable, economical, practical and fuss free. The volcanic rock used in the manufacturing process ensures complete heat insulation, and is the reason that you get hours and hours of cooking power.

It is surprisingly easy to clean a potjie. The inside: Fill it with warm water and let it soak for a while and rinse with more warm water. DO NOT use dishwashing liquid, and your potjie will develop a very personal flavor over time. Dry carefully and apply a thin layer of cooking oil to protect the inside of the potjie until next time.
